The Notwist launch own label, release solo by Chronomad
4 September 2003

Bavarian art-pop experimentalists The Notwist launched their own record label last month—Alien Transistor—with the relase of Lichter (English: Distant Lights). It’s an EP-length experimental/instrumental soundtrack to the German film of the same name, directed by Hans-Christian Schmid.
On the 22nd, Alien Transistor follows up with the release of Chronomad, a mostly-instrumental solo project of Turkish-born music scholar, film director, and composer Saam Schlamminger. Markus and Micha Acher of The Notwist sit in on samples, keyboards, and programming.
The 37 year-old Schlamminger spent his childhood in Iran but since then has lived in Munich. He’s previously collaborated with The Notwist and with Klaus Wiese, also based in Munich and a one-time member of German-ambient legends Popol Vuh.
You can listen to RealAudio streams of Chronomad on the Alien Transistor website (and I recommend you do—they’re captivatingly odd), where you can also order the CD. US distributors handling the disc include Darla and Forced Exposure. | Alien Transistor | | The Notwist | | Distant Lights (film info) | | top of page |
