Bands Against Bush 'day of action' set for October 11th
15 September 2003

Bands Against Bush is “…an international resistance movement advocating the use of music, art, and culture to create a more just and equitable world.” It is a grass-roots, volunteer effort launched in Olympia, Washington, US, in response to the “radical conservatism ” (The Economist, London, 6 September 2003) and the “neo-imperialism” (Reforma, Mexico City, 20 March 2003) perpetrated with increasing vigor by the George W. Bush administration.
The premier event for Bands Against Bush will be an International Day of Action set for 11 October with music, speakers, and workshops planned. According to the main BAB website, events are set for nearly two dozen cities across the US as well as cities in Canada, Ireland, England, and France.
Organizers invite everyone to participate. But given the nationalism and bigotry implicit in America’s domestic and foreign policy they make a point to clarify what they mean by 'everyone': “We do not want this event/group to be dominated by straight white men. We wish to include women, queers and trans-gendered people on stage as well as off and represent the racial and class diversity of our communities in our group and events.”
