Manchester's Oceansize riding hype wave in UK 9 October 2003 The band played Austin’s South by Southwest festival last year and scored a glowing mention in Rolling Stone, but remain all but unknown in North America—with no announcement of a US release. If you’re not in the UK, you can get their record as an overpriced import, or get it directly online from UK retailers such as Amazon.co.uk. Oceansize cite influences ranging from Tortoise to Can to Black Sabbath, while their single Catalyst sounds distinctly like fellow Mancunians, Doves. We’ve provided a link to a streaming RealVideo version of the song. The band are on a major UK tour that started on 2 October and continutes tonight in Brighton. The dates are October 9 - Leicester (Princess Charlotte) 10 - Brighton (The Gloucester Club) 13 - Colchester (Soundhouse) 14 - Northampton (Soundhaus) 16 - Stoke (Sugarmill ) 17 - Buckley (Tivoli ) 20 - Cardiff (Barfly) 21 - Leeds (Josephs Well) 22 - Hull (Adelphi) 23 - Cambridge (Boatrace) 24 - Tunbridge Wells (Forum ) 26 - Brighton (Pressure Point) 27 - High Wycombe (White horse) 28 - Peterbrough (Park) 29 - Liverpool (Liverpool University) 30 - Coventry (Colosseum) | Oceansize | | Oceansize on Beggars Banquet | | Catalyst (full length RealVideo) | | CD from Amazon.co.uk | | top of page | |
