22 July 2003

Just as they did last time around, as San Francisco vocal/electropop duo Mates Of State finish up their third album they’re heading to Europe. Dates begin next Tuesday in Brighton, UK, and continue through 23 August in Borlänge, Sweden.
Then this fall the band will tour the US, on several dates opening for Death Cab For Cutie, who themselves, by the way, release a new LP in October.
The new Mates Of State album, Team Boo, appears for the US on 16 September on Champaign, Illinois indie Polyvinyl Records. Tracks are Ha Ha, Whiner’s Bio, Fluke, Open Book, Middle is Gold, The Kissaway, Gotta Get a Problem, Parachutes (Funeral Song), An Experiment, Sound it Off, I Got This Feelin’, and Separate the People.
MOS recorded the album at Pedernales Studio, near Austin—and reliable sources claim that country legend Willie Nelson guested on the set. Producers/engineers were John Croslin (who did the band’s first record) and Jim Eno (drummer and engineer for Spoon).
