Asylum Street Spankers play benefit for their own
10 July 2003

Back from a successful tour of Japan, Austin, Texas’ pure-acoustic flagbearers The Asylum Street Spankers will perform two benefit shows this Saturday to raise money for their clarinet player Stanley Smith.
Last month Smith suffered acute kidney failure, forcing him into the hospital for an extended stay. The band hopes the benefits at Austin’s Saxon Pub will offset some of his “massive medical bills,” according to their Website.
Smith, who couldn’t accompany the Spankers in Japan, will play both Austin shows. They’ll be some of his last with the band. He’s been planning to retire for some time.
Meanwhile, the Spankers have rescheduled their tour of Denmark, England, and Holland to now take place in April of 2004. And they’ve confirmed their fan cruise to Mexico (departing from Galveston) for 22 January 2004. Check their site for details. | The Asylum Street Spankers | | The Saxon Pub | | top of page |
