10 July 2003

The summer festival season this year will see at least two and perhaps three Ladyfest events in England—like all Ladyfests, inspired by the original August, 2000 Ladyfest in Olympia. Confirmed for the UK: Ladyfest Bristol next month and Ladyfest Manchester in September.
Ladyfest Bristol, slated for 14 - 17 August, will include performances by The Gossip (USA), Holly Golightly (UK), The Applicators (USA), Klang (UK), Mooz (UK), and Scout Niblett (UK) at The Fleece and Firkin—with more to be announced.
The Bristol weekend kicks off with an electronica extravaganza in Bristol harbor on the good ship Thekla, with AGF (Berlin), Masha Qrella (Berlin), Alice & Serial Numbers (Montreal), and Music for One (UK).
Ladyfest Bristol will also feature a week-long feminist film festival; a major exhibition of female comic-book art, presented in association with Ladyfest Manchester; spoken word performances by Feminists in Fishnets (Hazel Stewart & Jill Miller), Annie McGann (UK), and Catherine Kidd (Montreal); and workshops on bicycle repair, comic book making, filmmaking, and more.
Ladyfest Manchester takes place 4 -7 September at the Zion Arts Centre on Stretford Road in Hulme, Manchester. Confirmed artists include Acute Couch, Baba Yaga, Flamingo 50, Gertrude, Girls On Top, Jacyln Hagan, Bernadette La Hengst (Berlin), Hooker, Lesbo Pig, Linus, Lolita Storm, Rosie Lugosi, Red Vinyl Fur, SissyBoyz (Berlin), Valerie, and The Zero Pretties. Still to be confirmed: Tribe 8 (Los Angeles) and Hanin Elias (Berlin).
Along with the music, Ladyfest Manchester will include a workshop on striptease presented by the International Union of Sex Workers, as well as a workshop on self defense. | Ladyfest Bristol | | Ladyfest Manchester | | top of page |
