New record from The Notwist gets extra tracks for US
20 January 2003

Domino Records will release the quietly beautiful 2002 album from Berlin experimental pop collective The Notwist domestically for the US on 25 February. (That didn’t stop New York Times music critic Neil Strauss from naming it one of his top ten records for last year.) The new version of Neon Golden will have three tracks not on the UK or German editions. The bonus songs are Scoop, Propeller 9, and Formiga—all previously on the Europe-only Scoop single.
Too strange, noisy, and percussive to fall into the 'chill' camp, Neon Golden nonetheless soothes rather than galvanizes. For all of The Notwist’s punky past, this one turns a blind eye to the ascendent mainstream loud/aggressive-rock trend (viz Yeah Yeah Yeahs, The White Stripes, The Hives, D4). We’ll bring you a review next month. | The Notwist | | The Notwist on City Slang | | One With The Freaks (full length MP3) | | top of page |
