Avant Garde triple-bill in Berkeley
13 January 2003
image
If you can make your way to Berkeley, California by the 25th, you can partake in an extraordinary avant-garde triple bill featuring some of the most creative artists on the left coast. The Ramp club hosts an evening with Wobbly, Why?, and Create(!) in a rather odd and intimate setting—a church basement.
Wobbly, aka Jon Leidecker, creates intensely gripping music collages from tightly hand-edited samples. His latest work, available directly from him or from Tigerbeat6, is titled Wild Why. There’s also a three-hour-long MP3 version available from the Negativland Website. You can find on his own Website a 25-minute long MP3 of his May 2002 performance at the Ether Festival in London.
Why?, aka Jonathan Wolf, plays in cLOUDDEAD and has an upcoming, not-yet-titled solo album on Anticon/Mush Records.
Joining Wobbly and Why? will be Create(!), a six-piece avant-garde improvisational ensemble from Los Angeles who record on the SoundsAreActive label. Members include Orlando Greenhill (electric and acoustic bass, voice, toys, electronics), Danny Levin (euphonium, trombone, percussion, voice, electronics), Steve Richardson (drums, percussion, electronics), Chris Schlarb (electric guitar, clarinet, toys, percussion, electronics), Ian Souter (trumpet, percussion, voice, electronics) and Tim McMullen (paints).
The 7-10 pm all ages show will set you back all of $5. The Ramp club is at 2236 Parker Street, between Shattuck and Telegraph in the basement of the Seventh Day Adventist church in Berkeley. | Why? | | Wobbly | | Create(!) | | Anticon collective | | Mush Records | | top of page |
