ATP expands to NYC, reveals LA venues
24 February 2003

The ever-growing All Tomorrow’s Parties festival got off to a rocky start when it first reached out from its home base on the southeast coast of England to the western US—the September, 2001 terror attacks forced a postponement of the LA ATP festival to the following spring. But the US debut last March was a great success, curated by Sonic Youth and featuring such diverse acts as Aphex Twin, The Boredoms, Tony Conrad, Destroy All Monsters, Peaches, Stereoloab, and Television.
For 2003, All Tomorrow’s Parties’ director Barry Hogan has added a third locale, New York city, which will host its first ATP festival this coming September. Curators will be Stephen Malkmus (ex Pavement) and his band The Jicks. As of press time, there’s no word on the NYC dates, venues, or lineup.
But this year’s UK festival, 4-6 April, and the LA festival, taking place 20-22 June, are pretty much set.
Last year Hogan selected cartoonist Matt Groening (Life In Hell, The Simpsons) to curate the LA event. The lineup so far comprises 32 bands, among them And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead, The Breeders, Neko Case, The Fall, Daniel Johnston, Le Tigre, The Melvins, Wire, and Yo La Tengo. Venues, announced earlier this month, will be The Palace (Hollywood), The Henry Fonda Theater, and The Palladium. There will not, however, be events taking place at UCLA as previously announced. Organizers expect to start selling tickets this week, with details available on the festival Website. | All Tomorrow's Parties | | top of page |
