Artists Speak Against Poverty
27 August 2003
image
Popup Records, based in Coconut Creek, Florida, is working on an all-spoken-word album featuring an eclectic mix of outsider artists and devoted to the topic of poverty. Not sex or drugs or love or angst. Just poverty—that sad, perennial, insidious flipside of wealth that weakens society from the bottom up and the inside out.
The record is Artists Speak Against Poverty, Volume One, and it’s tentatively slated for a late winter release in the US. Sales will benefit the Rhode Island-based nonprofit charity Childreach.
The Popup team are still working on the lineup and can’t reveal much, but confirmed artists as of this writing are Daryl Palumbo (Glassjaw), Geert Van der Velde (Shai Hulud), Jason Gleason (Further Seems Forever), and jazz vocalist/bassist/composer Eric Mingus.
Check the Popup website for updates. We’ll post a note when the disc appears. | Popup Records | | Childreach | | Institute for Research on Poverty | | Shai Hulud | | top of page |
