Merge Records follows through on comp commitment
14 August 2003

North Carolina indie label Merge Records is following through on its promise from last summer by continuing to release inexpensive compilations of otherwise-unavailable songs from their growing roster of artists. Out now (released last month) is Survive And Advance, Volume 3.
Each of the 14 tracks on the disc, with one exception, is previously unreleased, or from an out-of-print or forthcoming album, or a demo version, or live. Artists on SAA3 are Buzzcocks, The Clientele, Crooked Fingers, Matt Elliott, East River Pipe, The Essex Green, The Karl Hendricks Trio, The Ladybug Transistor, Lambchop, Portastatic, The Rosebuds, Spoon, Matt Suggs, and M. Ward.
As low profile as it is (with an Amazon.com sales ranking down in the sub-basement), the Survive And Advance series continues to prove itself as a unique value, a great intro to the eclectic Merge roster, a great example for other labels to follow, and a must-have collectible for fans of any of these artists. You can pick it up cheap from retailers like Amazon, or even cheaper directly from Merge. | Merge Records | | CD from Amazon | | top of page |
