Nasty trick at NYC Halloween showcase hurts fans
21 October 2002
Press release from Greg Werckman and Mike Patton of Alameda, California-based Ipecac Recordings...

Ipecac Recordings is very disheartened to announce that the Ipecac Label Halloween Showcase party (part of the annual CMJ Music Marathon) has been cancelled by the Roxy Nightclub in New York City. Our sincerest apologies go out to everyone that this affected, especially our die hard supporters.
It seems that 2 different booking agents at the venue booked 2 different shows for the same night. Although our show was sold out months ago they decided to honor the contract for the other show, DJ Carl Cox. Clear Channel, who was promoting the event suggested that we share the venue but management for Carl Cox declined. The label scrambled to find a suitable venue to move the show to but was unable to find one.
According to Ipecac co-owner Greg Werckman, "Yes we stand to lose thousands of dollars because of someone else's ineptness, but the thing that really stings is the fact that over 2000 of our diehard supporters bought tickets, booked flights and hotel rooms months ago. What happens to these people?"
Label co-owner Mike Patton (who was scheduled to perform with 2 different bands at the show) added " We started this label 3 and a half years ago as a way to operate differently than what is the norm in the music industry, to be artist friendly and fan friendly. This show was a celebration of what we have built in such a short period of time, a vindication of our goals. Now we stand here apologizing, looking like fools, yet we did nothing wrong and our fans certainly did nothing wrong."
We are getting legal advice to determine what to do next. Stay tuned to www.ipecac.com for more details. | Ipecac Recordings | | top of page |
