Portland, Oregon twee pop quartet All Girl Summer Fun Band (vocalist/keyboards player/guitarist Kim Baxter; drummer Kathy Foster; bassist Ari Douangpanya; and guitarist/vocalist Jen Sbragia, visiting from The Softies) released their debut LP in March on K Records. Now they’re contributing one of the songs from that LP, It’s There, to a benefit compilation CD to be available next month to raise funds for this year’s session of Portland’s Rock 'n' Roll Camp For Girls.
The six-day camp takes place in July at Portland’s Native American Community Center, and accepts about 120 girls aged 8 through 18 who learn the basics of playing rock music on the instrument of their choice. This year, AGSFB’s Kim Baxter will teach guitar.
The forthcoming compilation CD is one of several benefit mechanisms to help subsidize camp costs—while the camp’s actual costs per girl are $1,000, the fee is just $50. Sponsors this year include IBM, Dr. Martens, and the Portland Songwriters Association. See the camp Website for more information if you’d like to become a sponsor, donate an instrument, or donate money.
We’ll bring you more information on the benefit CD as we get it. | Rock 'n' Roll Camp For Girls | | All Girl Summer Fun Band | | AGSFB debut LP from Amazon US | | top of page |
