Flying Nun Records celebrates 21 years with unique LP
22 March 2002

Auckland, New Zealand’s Flying Nun Records is celebrating 21 years of bringing kiwi rock to the world with a very special LP featuring ten NZ/Oz bands plus special guests, all recorded on a single day—today—at Auckland’s York Street Studios. (Due to the time difference, by the time you read this the sessions will likely be over.) The set will be titled Under The Influence: 21 Years Of Flying Nun Records.
Apart from being one cool disc, it will serve as a milestone in the continuing history of the Flying Nun label, that has to date seen more than 500 releases.
Participants in today’s sessions include (NZ artists unless noted): Betchadupa, The Clean, The D4, Garageland, Gerling (from Australia), The Hasselhoff Experiment, HDU + suprise guest, Stephen Malkmus (from USA, ex Pavement), PanAm, and Tall Dwarfs plus Graeme Downes of The Verlaines.
No word yet on worldwide distribution plans for Under The Influence. | Flying Nun Records | | top of page |
