Rare Roky Erikson LP to get reissue
19 March 2002

Long Beach, California indie label Sympathy For The Record Industry is putting together a deluxe reissue package of Texas psychedelic legend Roky Erikson’s long out of print 1980 album The Evil One, which originally appeared with an unpronouncable Runic title.
The package is likely to be a double CD containing the full original album as it appeared on CBS Records in Europe, the five additional songs added to the 1981 US version of the set, plus bonus tracks including songs released only in France in 1976.
54 year old Roger Kynard Erikson co-founded the 13th Floor Elevators in Austin, Texas in 1965 from the remains of The Lingsmen and The Spades. The band disintegrated just three years later, in that time making an indelible imprint on the story of psychedelic rock and helping to set its future course.
Of all the members of The 13th Floor Elevators, Erikson’s solo career has been the only one of note. After an indictment for drug possession in 1969, followed by involuntary institutionalization at the Rusk State Hospital for the Criminally Insane in Austin—which included electroconvulsive therapy and an anti-psychotic drug regimen—Erikson formed a series of bands including Bleib Alien, Roky Erikson And The Aliens, The Explosives, and The Nervebreakers. He’s still musically active. | Roky Erikson | | Sympathy For The Record Industry | | Roky Erikson FAQ | | top of page |
