Nonprofit Rock & Roll Library faces eviction 15 June 2002 Now, with 16 college interns signed up for the summerdrawn by the projects focus on human rights, gay rights, and tolerance, as well as by the glamour of rock musicthe RRL faces eviction from its home of 3 1/2 years. In mid April, a Boston constable delivered an official eviction notice to Anne Fitzpatrick, founder and director of the Library. The notice said, simply, that they must leave because they dont have a lease. Earlier this month the landlord went further, demanding that the RRL cease all operations while in its present location, and secured a court date of 11 July to enforce the eviction. The Library, not wanting or able to stage a legal fightthey cant afford a lawyerwill move. But with Boston area rents skyrocketing they are in more need than ever of corporate sponsorship. They are also in need of some time to secure such sponsorship and to find a location large enough to accommodate their growing collective of volunteers. Fitzpatrick hopes the judge will grant them a realistic delay before they are forced out. Independent record labels, sympathetic rock stars, and anonymous philanthropists are invited to get in touch with the Library in Boston as soon as possible at 617-779-8762. Individuals may contribute as well using PayPalcheck the RRL Website. | Rock & Roll Library | | top of page | |
