Negativland announce date for long-awaited book/LP 11 July 2002
The project began as a collection of photographs of wrecked and crushed cars in a junkyard, along with found writings in those cars, and only later picked up an accompanying soundtrack—a soundtrack which a spokesperson describes, in the manner of a photographic negative, as “...the sound of Negativland’s studio being destroyed in a car crash. With no bass lines, no melody, no dialog, no singing, and no beat, Negativland’s familiar toe tapping songs and humorously accessible audio collages are nowhere to be heard.” The Deathsentences book, 64 pages of color photographs taken by the band along with prose found in the cars in the form of “...love notes, hate letters, personal records, receipts, photographs, unpaid parking tickets, failure to appear notices, unopened mail from collection agencies, lottery receipts, losing game cards from fast food restaurants....” Negativland began this project in 1998 and have taken extra steps to make it special—down to the packaging, which encloses the CD and book in a die-cut automotive courtesy envelope. | Negativland | | Behind the deathsentences (the making of...) | | discography | | top of page | |
