Brigitte Fontaine/Sonic Youth LP due this year
18 January 2002

60-something Avant-garde French vocalist Brigittte Fontaine collaborated with NYC’s legendary noise rockers Sonic Youth last year in the studio and on stage. Two songs from those sessions appeared on the France-only CD Kékéland last August (the album’s title whimsically refers to the inherent insanity and kitschiness of art). Now Sonic Youth Recordings has announced that they will release a full album from those sessions this spring.
The not-yet-titled US release will include the two SY-Fontaine songs that appeared on Kékéland, along with remixes and outtakes from the sessions, plus excerpts from their joint performance last year at the Georges Pompidou Cultural Center in Paris.
Sonic Youth, meanwhile, are busier than ever. Their new album is soon to be out on DGC, featuring longtime collaborator Jim O’Rourke as a full member and producer; their rescheduled All Tomorrow’s Parties LA festival takes place 15-17 March; and they will re-release three classic albums this year, each remastered and with special packaging—with two discs per set to make room for demo versions, B-sides, and other rarities. They’ll also release DVD editions of the SY video titles Screaming Fields of Sonic Love, The Goo That Lives on in My Heart, and 1991: The Year Punk Broke. | Brigitte Fontaine | | Sonic Yourth Recordings | | Kekeland CD at Amazon France | | Sonic Youth | | top of page |
