The Long Winters post MP3s from forthcoming debut
4 February 2002

Alaska born singer/songwriter John Roderick, well known in the US northwest as founder and front man for The Western State Hurricanes and as touring keyboardist/guitarist with Harvey Danger, is about to release his debut album under the name The Long Winters.
Essentially a solo project, Roderick’s sessions for The Long Winters disc included a cavalcade of northwest indie artists including members of Built To Spill, Death Cab For Cutie, Harvey Danger, Sunny Day Real Estate, and The Posies. We’ll bring you a full review in a couple of weeks, just before the CD hits stores—but I’ll say now that it’s easily among the most interesting albums I’ve heard in months.
The Long Winters have just posted two full length MP3 versions of songs from the forthcoming album on the Barsuk Records Website. The tracks are Car Parts and Scent Of Lime—check our links.
Roderick has now put together a touring band to support his new album, including drummer Michael Shilling and multi-instrumentalist Sean Nelson from The Western State Hurricanes, keyboards player Chris Caniglia, and Bass player Eric Colson. The new band played their first show this past October at The Crocodile Cafe in Seattle. Upcoming gigs are 9 February at The Crocodile with Beulah and John Vanderslice; 13 February at The Blackbird in Portland, Oregon; and 1 March at the Tractor Tavern in Seattle with Voyager One. | The Long Winters on Barsuk Records | | Car Parts (full length MP3) | | Scent Of Lime (full length MP3) | | top of page |
