Pavement double DVD to see light of day this fall 5 August 2002 The band formed in Stockton, California (in the valley east of the San Francisco Bay Area) in 1989, and broke up while on tour in the UK ten years later. Also to be released on 22 October is a deluxe, remastered re-issue of Pavements 1992 debut LP Slanted And Enchanted, whose extra tracks will include the complete Watery Domestic EP from late 1992, singles B-sides, and at least three studio outtakes. Matador will release it on CD and vinyl, with liner notes by Stephen Malkmus, Scott 'Spiral Stairs' Kannberg, and many others. Following Pavements dissolution, front man Stephen Malkmus put together a band he calls The Jicks, who released their debut last year under his name. The band re-entered the studio in May for their second LP under the working title Pig Lib, with tentative tracks Doctor Drop, Do Not Feed The Oysters, The Calories, Vanessa From Queens, Grab It And Gone, Fractions And Feelings, Chromatic Advisor, 1% Of 1, and Animal Midnight. Malkmus was one of a very few non-New Zealanders invited to participate this March in a marathon recording session in Aukland celebrating Flying Nun Records 20th anniversary, the result of which is a various-artists LP called Under The Influence, released in May. Meanwhile, Spiral Stairs new band Preston School Of Industry put out their debut All This Sounds Gas last year. They toured Australia and Europe this spring, and on Saturday finished a US tour supporting Wilco. They released a single this year on Australias Trifekta label, titled The Idea Of Fires, available from the label.
