Stephin Merritt side project to stage fourth performance
15 August 2002

The Three Terrors are a (so-far) performance-only side project of fantastically prolific New York composer/singer/multi-instrumentalist Stephin Merritt, best known for his amorphous solo project/collective The Magnetic Fields but also for The 6ths, The Gothic Archies, and Future Bible Heroes.
T3T include Merritt along with Dudley Klute of Kid Montana and LD Beghtol of Flare and Moth Wranglers, plus guests. They have performed once each year, and only in New York city, since debuting in February of 1999 at The Tonic. Their upcoming show will take place 15 September at The Bowery Ballroom, with tickets available now (check our link).
Every T3T show has a theme, this one being 'The Three Terrors—Their 1885 Transploding Styrofoam Holo-Graphic Octopus—Songs of Drink, Drugs & Delirium.' For those of you on drugs at the moment, that means radical and light-hearted interpretations of songs through the ages about intoxication. Opening will be Susannah with her Oriental Danse show.
As always, Merritt has many irons in the fire. In February his Magnetic Fields project signed with the prestigious Nonesuch label for that band’s first album since 1999’s 69 Love Songs. Nonesuch has slated the new, not-yet-titled Magnetic Fields album for a fall 2002 release.
Last month Merritt released a new track by The Gothic Archies on a compilation titled Survive And Advance, available from his longtime label, Merge Records. He’s composing an opera, and along with author/keyboardist/accordian player Daniel Handler is writing a screenplay. Merritt is also collaborating with Handler—who writes dark children’s novels under the name Lemony Snicket—to record a new Gothic Archies album with one song for each of Handler’s 'A Series Of Unfortunate Events' books. Merge has tentatively slated the new Gothic Archies LP for a 2003 release. The Three Terrors | tickets | | House Of Tomorrow (SM official site) | | fan site | | Lemony Snicket | | top of page |
