9 April 2002

Thanks to a remarkably resiliant artist and audience base, the San Francisco music scene is gradually recovering from a few bad years marked by venue and rehearsal space closings—closings that were driven by rising rents from the (recently-popped) dot-com bubble. One hopeful sign: a new monthly show on San Francisco cable television featuring local music and titled Burn My Eye.
It’s on San Francisco cable channel 29 the first Wednesday of each month at midnight. But you can order a video tape of any episode for $5—more information on the Burn My Eye Website (check our link).
Photographer Virgil W. Porter produces the 30 minute show with help from area artists Robynn Nonogirl, Lucinda Renaldo, Josh Wilson, and Zumonline’s George Chen. Each episode includes live performances and interviews with two bands. The debut, aired 3 April, featured noise punk duo Pink & Brown and experimental duo Blectum From Blechdom. The 5 May show stars Bay Area no-wave trio Numbers. Future episodes are slated to feature Crack: We Are Rock, Deerhoof, and Erase Errata.
Pink & Brown are currently on a US tour, wrapping up on the 14th in San Francisco. Blectum From Blechdom have been hanging out in France and begin a week-plus European tour tomorrow night at the Frohegg in St. Gallen, Switzerland. Check their site for details.
