5 April 2002

Since 10 March, The Barbican hall in London has been presenting the 2002 edition of their annual Only Connect festival, which invites avante-garde and more traditional artists to collaborate in unique performance events. This year’s schedule includes the much-hyped Sigur Rós paired with Icelandic composer Hilmar Örn Hilmarsson, Teenage Fanclub paired with Jad Fair, and Blur’s Damon Albarn paired with west African guitarist Afel Bocoum. On 20 April, Yo La Tengo will perform their Sounds Of Science show, a series of pieces to accompany short films on sea life.
For the final night of the festival, 27 April, the legendary and ever-evolving Coil will perform in sequence with two of the most musical and innovative electronic acts these days, Plaid (the duo of Ed Handly and Andy Turner) and Mouse On Mars (the duo of Jan St. Werner and Andi Thoma). The audio/visual performances—similar to Yo La Tengo’s—will accompany projections of edited computer games.
All shows in the Only Connect series are sold out or nearly so.
Coil begain a European tour on 30 March in Limoge, France, continuing through the 13th for a show at Alte Spinnerei in Glauchau, Germany. Check their Website for details. | Only Connect info | | Coil | | Plaid | | Mouse On Mars | | top of page |
