Actionslacks release EP collection in advance of new LP
2 April 2002

Oakland/Berkeley, California hi-energy/lo-fi guitar rockers Actionslacks released their collection/EP Never Never Shake Baby on Austin’s Post-Parlo Records last week. It’s available from better indie shops and online (check our link).
Besides spanning moods from quiet ballad to psychedelic metal to outright aggro, the EP’s five songs span three years of Actionslacks history. Included is a previously unreleased 1996 cover of She Talks In Stereo (the 1980 hit off the debut by Gary Myrick & The Figures), and a live version of I Hope This Makes It Easier For You, tracked in 1999 at San Francisco’s Bottom Of The Hill Club.
The other three songs on Never Never Shake Baby, also previously unreleased, were recorded in 1999 with producer J. Robbins (front man for Burning Airlines) during the sessions for Actionslacks’ 2001 full length This Scene’s Out Of Sight. They are Annie Oakley, Iron Anchor, and a dreamy & sparse remix of album track Shining Jewels.
Actionslacks are now a trio: singer/guitarist/songwriter Tim Scanlin, drummer Marty Kelly, and bassist Ross Murray. This summer they’ll enter John Vanderslice’s Tiny Telephone studios in San Francisco once again, with J. Robbins at the controls—the same producer and locale that worked so well for This Scene’s Out Of Site. The sessions will result in the fourth Actionslacks album, slated for a September release on NYC’s The Self-Starter Foundation label.
Actionslacks have delivered a big fluorescent capsule of bristling guitar energy, a just-in-time prescription for those craving intelligent guitar rock while waiting for the next album. Four bites out of five.

Rockbites ratings  5: life changing, 4: stunning, 3: captivating, 2: amusing, 1: annoying.
