The Locust, in Europe, make progress on debut LP
5 September 2001

San Diego, California experimental punk four piece The Locust have pursued an odd career over their six years, releasing product such as belt buckles, make-up mirrors, and skateboards as well as music in quirky formats such as a 13 minute 12" promoted as a 'full length'... All while touring with the likes of Atari Teenage Riot and At The Drive-In, and getting remixed by, among others, Kid 606 and I Am Spoonbender.
Now, we hear, they are close to finished writing the songs for their debut album proper.
As a volatile—no, fissionable—collective, the band have gone through a dizzying number of personnel changes, most recently with guitarist Gabe Serbian taking over on drums for departed founding member David Astor. They now seem to have settled down for a bit as a quartet with founders Justin Pearson (bass, vocals) and Robert Bray (guitar, vocals), plus Joseph Karam (keyboards, vocals) and Serbian. With this lineup they recently tracked five songs to be released on a split 7" with Tokyo noise mongers Melt Banana.
Last year’s Flight Of The Wounded Locust vinyl EP is about to see release as a CD on indie label Gold Standard Laboratories. Expect it in stores the first week of October.
The Locust staged a major US tour this summer and have been touring Europe since the middle of August. They continue tonight with a show in Gothenburg, Sweden, with dates set through 1 October for a closer in Tillburg, The Netherlands. Here are the facts
