Future of Music Coalition announces speaking tour of US
18 September 2001
image
The Washington, DC based Future of Music Coalition (FMC), whose founders include musicians, lawyers, and label insiders, works to forward the interests of musicians within the music industry and on Capitol Hill—especially in regard to digital technology and the Internet. They have just announced six weeks of dates for a US fall speaking tour to raise awareness of the issues, with more dates expected. At most locations the tour will also host concerts, but they have not yet announced artists.
The first ever FMC tour has three goals: to introduce the Coalition; to describe the Coalition’s focus including comunications policy, copyright law, and musician contracts; and to engage in an informed and productive debate with students, academics, and community members about these issues.
The speaking tour is still coming together and expanding, with the FMC inviting school representatives to contact them to schedule a stop. Beyond the (mostly) confirmed dates we list below, the FMC is working on arrangements with several other schools including the Columbia University Law School, Duke, Harvard, Northwestern University, and the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
