Mecca Normal touring US, Canada with new songs 10 September 2001 Mecca Normal, who formed 15 years ago and have pursued their art and politics with little regard to commercial considerations, last put out an album in 1997 (Who Shot Elvis?, on the Matador label). Neither Jean Smith nor David Lester is in a hurry to release another LP, each pursuing writing careers and content to play new material live while working out the best arrangement for record distribution. One option theyre considering is to self-release an album through their Web site. Through the 18th theyre playing eastern US and Canada dates with Unwound and The Thrones. On the 21st at Torontos El Mocambo theyre doing a tribute to Manchester, Englands The Fall. They plan to tour the western US and Canada in November.
