South by Southwest Fest hits 1st artist’s deadline
8 October 2001

Tomorrow (9 October) is the first artist application deadline for the annual Austin mega-festival known as South by Southwest aka SXSW. If your band wants to apply to play a SXSW showcase, postmark your application by midnight Tuesday to take advantage of the $10 rate. After Tuesday, showcase applications cost $20. The final deadline for artist applications is 9 November.
Each year, SXSW hosts several hundred bands for the Music component of the multimedia event. The other two components are Film and Interactive. The full festival next year runs 8-17 March (which unfortunately conflicts directly with the rescheduled US All Tomorrow’s Parties festival—see previous story).
If you apply as an artist to play, and whether or not you’re accepted, you are eligible to receive the lowest attendee rate through February 2002—so in that case you don’t need to rush to purchase an attendee badge.
If you’re going as an attendee, you can purchase tickets all the way through to the festival itself at walkup, but it’s much more expensive than buying in advance. The first attendee deadline passed on 21 September, but you can still save as much as $225 now compared to walkup prices. | South by Southwest | | artist info | | attendee info | | top of page |
