Ribbon Effect release debut LP
30 October 2001
image
Chicago ambient/experimental/instrumental trio Ribbon Effect, formed in 1998 by art school students turned recording engineers, signed to Lawrence Lui’s NYC based RoomTone label last year and released their debut album titled Slip.
The band composed the five track, 55 minute set over several months in collaboration with video artist Joel Ross, writing the music in concert with Ross’s 3-monitor visuals as a multimedia project and performing it at a variety of Chicago clubs and galleries. They point out in an interview in the ezine Ten By Ten that the sound and vision components evolved together, playing off each other as segments were written and rewritten.
Ribbon Effect are multi-instrumentalists Jacob Ross and Danielle Malkoff with drummer Bill Talsma. You can pick up their CD from Ear/Rational Music or from Forced Exposure in the US, or from Opal Music in the UK.
