Aereogramme to join Superchunk for US dates
30 October 2001

In a splendid example of effective tour reshuffling, Scottish downtempo noise trio Aereogramme, orphaned tour-wise by Arab Strap’s US cancellation, are now set to stage their debut American tour starting 17 November. They’ll play eight dates supporting Superchunk—who themselves lost touring partners Gorky’s Zygotic Mynci in another cancellation—and then continue for a couple more weeks on a headlining tour.
As we mentioned a couple of weeks ago, Aereogramme, with their debut LP 'A Story In White' in hand, had planned to tour North America with Arab Strap next month, but (as with so many tours following the September tragedies) plans fell through. Arab Strap expect to return Stateside in 2002.
Now Aereogramme will open for North Carolina’s Superchunk on the final eight stops of their current, major tour. Superchunk began last night in Nashville, and play through 26 November hitting both coasts, the Southwest, the Midwest, and Canada. Other opening bands for Superchunk (taking turns filling in for the missing Gorky’s) this go-round include The Good Life and Rilo Kiley. And joining Superchunk onstage for the tour (as their 'long lost fifth member') will be fellow Merge artist Annie Hayden. She’ll provide backing vocals as well as keyboards, guitars, and percussion—freeing front man Mac McCaughan and guitarist Jim Wilbur to jump around like they wanna.
Aereogramme’s debut US tour dates are

November
17 - Detroit, MI (Magic Stick)
18 - Toronto, ONT (Opera House)
20 - Montréal, QUE (Cabaret)
21 - Somerville, MA (Somerville Theater)
23-24 - New York city, NY (Bowery Ballroom)
25 - Philadelphia, PA (Trocadero)
26 - Washington, DC (Black Cat)
27 through 8 December: to be announced
