Trembling Blue Stars announce debut US tour
29 October 2001

Londoner Bob Wratten has been making disarmingly gentle and pretty modern pop since 1988, long before the advent of twee as a distinct genre. His bands have included The Field Mice, Northern Picture Library, and most recently Trembling Blue Stars—who have just undergone a complete reworking leaving Wratten the sole remaining original member.
Now a five-piece, this month Trembling Blue Stars released their fourth album, Alive To Every Smile, and have announced dates for their first ever US tour.
The new band includes Keris Howard (ex Brighter) on bass, replacing Michael Hiscock; and Beth Arzy on vocals, replacing Annemarie Davies. Hiscock and Davies had been with Wratten from the start. Also in the new TBS are drummer Jonathan Akerman and longtime Wratten collaborator, guitarist/keyboards player Harvey Williams. The full band will be along for the upcoming US tour.
Alive To Every Smile continues TBS’ trend toward the noisy and the psychedelic, but retains the poginancy and emotional intensity that are Wratten’s trademarks. Annemarie Davies shares vocal credits with Arzy on the LP, but according to the band’s UK label it is very likely her last ever contribution to TBS. The set was released 8 October in the UK on Shinkansen and last Tuesday Stateside on Sub Pop. In September, Shninkansen released a UK only EP featuring album track The Ghost Of An Unkissed Kiss.
