Stereolab bring Sound-Dust to US, Canada, UK, Ireland
24 October 2001

Having played Europe over the last few weeks, along the way missing some dates in France because of front woman Laetitia Sadier finding herself with a throat infection, London electropop pioneers Stereolab have launched the next leg of their current tour in the US and Canada. They’re supporting their eighth (or tenth, depending whose discography you believe) full length, Sound-Dust, released last month on Duophonic UHF in the UK and late August on Elektra in the US.
The band play US and Canda shows through 25 November, including a four night stand in New York city, before heading back across the Atlantic for dates in England, Scotland, and Ireland in December.
Collaborators on the new album include John McEntire (Tortoise), Jim O’Rourke (multi-instrumentalist, producer for—among many others—Sonic Youth, Storm And Stress, Enon, Smog), and Sean O’Hagen (The High Llamas).
Sound-Dust features a wider array of instrumentation than on previous Stereolab discs including harpsichord and pedal steel guitar, and presents a wider musical landscape. It not only puts you in an unusual place—as do their other albums—but invites you to view that imaginary locale in many different lights.
The US, Canada and UK, Ireland tour began Monday. For the England, Wales, and Scotland shows, Quasi will open. The dates (including the past two nights) are
