Witness needs AVID editing system, tech help

(As a human rights oriented Web site—we’re here to raise funds for human rights as well as to expose cutting edge pop—Rockbites occasionally brings you non-music-related stories. Here’s one.)

New York based human rights organization Witness, founded in 1992 by former Genesis vocalist Peter Gabriel along with The Lawyers Committee for Human Rights and the Reebok Foundation, provides video equipment to human rights activists to help expose abuses and ensure justice around the world. Witness gets support from individuals and corporations, and from such activities as this August’s Real World Records benefit CD release titled Gifted: Women Of The World.
Located very close to the site of the former World Trade Center towers in New York city, Witness was forced to close for a week as rescuers and others performed their heartbreaking work. Fortunately, none of the Witness staff were harmed physically in the attacks, nor were their families.
Witness typically exposes human rights abuses in distant parts of the world, but in the wake of the 11 September attacks they’ve opened an eye to bigotry here in America while continuing to pursue abuses everywhere—for example, they recently made available an undercover video shot in the garment sweatshops of the US territory of Saipan.
Witness is about to lose a critical component of their tool set, a computer-based video editing system, which had been on generous loan for a year from the Gregory C. Carr Foundation. They are looking for a low-cost purchase arrangement, or donation of, or a new loan of, an AVID-based editing system—details below.
They are also looking for technical help. They have one 30 hour/week position open for an individual competent with Javascript, Perl, PGP, FTP, HTML, Adobe Photoshop, Windows 2000 network administration, ASP coding, and streaming media.
If you can help supply components of the AVID editing system, or are interested in the technical position, contact Sam Gregory at Witness.
Here are the details of the AVID editing system needed by Witness
