Second annual Future of Music summit announced

The second annual Future of Music policy summit, sponsored by the nonprofit Future of Music Coalition (FMC), takes place 7-8 January 2002 at Georgetown University’s Gaston Hall in Washington, DC. The summit serves as a forum for musicians, elected officials, lawyers, academics, and music industry executives to debate topics including artists’ rights, contracts and collective bargaining for artists, digital technology, radio and media consolidation, encryption and watermarking, and policy & practices of major labels and of the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).
    Keynote speakers at the 2002 summit are representative Rick Boucher (D, Virginia), and representative John Conyers (D, Michigan). Panelists include (among many others) Eric Boehlert and Janelle Brown of Salon.com, John Perry Barlow of the Electronic Frontier Foundation, Edward Felton of Princeton University, Colleen Anderson of Microsoft, Pat DiNizio of The Smithereens and XM Radio, Dave Dederer of Presidents Of The United States Of America, and Jerry Harrison of Talking Heads and garageband.com.
