Boulder, Colorado indie label What Are Records? (originally based a few blocks from the twin towers in NYC, though they moved years ago) has announced that founder Rob Gordon is assembling a multi-musician benefit recording of John Lennon’s 1971 anthem Imagine.
Working with his wife Rebecca—whose idea the project was—Gordon produced the base tracks last Tuesday at Colorado Sound Studios south of Boulder. The facility donated the studio time for the sessions. All proceeds from sales of the single will go to children who lost parents during last month’s New York city & Pentagon attacks.
Confirmed artists for the Imagine remake include Everything, Jordan Hill, The Hothouse Flowers, Hanson, Sally Taylor, Glenn Tilbrook (ex Squeeze), The Innocence Mission, David Yazbek, and members of David Gray’s band. Gordon expects many more indie artists to sign on in the coming days.
The label expects to release the single later this month, to be sold directly from their Website.
Meanwhile, WAR? artist The Innocence Mission have announced that all future proceeds from their 2000 benefit CD Christ Is My Hope will go to the Archdiocese of New York, who are providing assistance to WTC victims’ families. | What Are Records? | | The Innocence Mission | | top of page |
