Absalom Recordings shuts it doors
27 November 2001

Toronto indie label Absalom Recordings, headed up by Todd Brown and former home to such artists as The Autumns, Charity Empressa, The Czars, and The Denver Gentlemen, announced yesterday that it has shut down permanently. Their Website is now gone save for the front page, and they’ve come up a backup plan for those of us who have subscribed to their 3" CD series.
During its brief lifetime, Absalom sponsored a benefit album titled Seen/Unseen, the proceeds from which went to Toronto’s Evergreen Ministry Centre for Street Youth. Evergreen provides food, counseling, health care, training, and internship/volunteer/job placement. The benefit included tracks by Frank Black & The Catholics, Sixteen Horsepower, The Czars, Giant Sand, and others.
    Here is Absalom’s full statement

“We regret to announce that Absalom Recordings is suspending all operations effective immediately. Due to a series of personal crises we are simply unable to continue to offer what we consider to be an acceptable level of service to either our acts or to you, our customers, and so we have come to the difficult decision to close our doors.

“To our valued 3" Subscribers: You will soon be receiving a package containing all currently available 3" releases from both series (a total of five) plus copies of our See / Unseen compilation, Charity Empressa's self titled debut and The Autumns' Le Carrilon EP. We realize that this is not what you had originally purchased, and we regret having to make the substitution, but we hope that the fact that what you'll be receiving has a significantly higher dollar value than the series will make up for the inconvenience and we hope you will accept our apologies.” | Absalom Recordings | | top of page |
