Neptune sign on for Melting Pot festival
31 May 2001

Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts experimental quartet Neptune (Jason Sanford, vocals and guitar; Christopher Huggins, guitar and vocals; Dan Boucher, percussion; John Manson, drums) make rock music from instruments they build themselves out of components including gas tanks, bicycle parts, and saw blades. They recently signed on to play the Melting Pot music festival set for 10-12 August at an as-yet undisclosed location (probably somewhere in Jawbone Canyon) in the California desert north of Los Angeles.
The festival is coming together thanks to the efforts of Sash and Christiane Hedrick, who manage LA’s Hot Pants Club. They inherited Melting Pot from former Flipside Magazine writer Gus Hudson, who staged it for several years. Past artists have included Beck, Fugazi, and Pop Defect. This year’s roster is still coming together, but so far includes (among others) Biblical Proof Of UFOs, The Eyeliners, Projekt K, and Neptune.
Neptune have one proper LP available, along with a number of singles and odd tracks on indie compilations. Their album Studio Recordings/May, MCMXCVII is still available directly from Archenemy Records on CD, or on vinyl with a hand-made sheet metal sleeve.
Neptune play two dates in June in the Boston area: 1 June at “a Salon in the SouthEnd” according to the band’s Web site, with John Kuntz and Rich Mackin; and 19 June at the Middle East in Cambridge with The Ex and Fat Day. | Neptune | | Archenemy Records | | Mrs. Robinson (full length MP3) | | Festival info | | bio | | discography | | top of page |
