His Name Is Alive ready first album in two years

Minimalist pop iconoclast Warn Defever, guiding light for Livonia, Michigan’s His Name Is Alive, is set to release his first album in two years. Each of his previous works has veered from expectations and, as expected, so does the new one.
On Someday My Blues Will Cover The Earth, Defever collaborates with gospel singer Lovetta Pippen, who he met during the sessions for his album Ft. Lake in 1998. The set is leftfield, R&B, ambient, and gospel all tied up in a very attractive package.
Tracks are Nothing Special, Interlude, Happy Blues, Solitude (by Duke Ellington), Write My Name In The Groove, Your Cheating Heart, Our Last Affair, One Year, Interlude, Karins Blues, Are We Still Married, Someday My Blues Will Cover The Earth, and Last Time.
Musicians this time ’round include bassist Fred Thomas (who’s played with James Brown, Cypress Hill, and Public Enemy), drummer Brett Lyman (from Ann Arbor post rockers Gaffle), guitarist Daniel Littleton (Ida, American Music Club), violinist Ida Pearl (Flare), and others. 4AD plans to release a series of remixes produced by Minotaur Shock, Kieren Hebden (Fridge, Fourtet), Susumu Yokota, and Burnt Friedman. While they’ve yet to announce a release date for the LP (it could be August, per Defever’s Time Stereo Records Web site), it will be sometime this year. We’ll bring you a review. | His Name Is Alive | | bio | | discography | | top of page |
