Unicycle Records cycles off into the sunset
18 May 2001

San Francisco’s Unicycle Records, best known for their 'morning after singles' online streams of local live rock music, have shut their doors at least for the time being. Owners Dean Martucci and Jason Knight wrote “It’s an old story by now, but even us little dudes have finally been beaten down by the forces beyond our control.... Wish we could keep the unicycle live recording series going, but we’re tapped out. It was a fuckin blast though, the whole way. Hope that came across.”
The Unicycle Web site, with its archive of recorded live music, will remain online indefinitely. You can find exclusive music from a variety of festivals and events (Noise Pop 1999 and 2000, Rock Out SF 2000, International Pop Overthrow LA 1999) and from club performances. Among the many artists with exclusive live versions of songs on the Unicycle site are Alien Crime Syndicate, The Aislers Set, Black Heart Procession, Burning Airlines, Don Caballero, Death Cab For Cutie, For Stars, Fuck, Imperial Teen, Isotope 217, Man Or Astroman?, MK Ultra, Murder City Devils, Oranger, Sister Double Happiness, Tarantel, and John Vanderslice
Dean & Jason have left the possibility open for reviving Unicycle, saying in closing “Who knows, if we find another way to do it...” | Unicycle Records | | top of page |
