The Raincoats sign on for Ladyfest Scotland
1 May 2001

UK punk second-wavers The Raincoats, formed in 1977 inspired by such artists as The Sex Pistols, Patti Smith, and The Slits, disbanded in 1984 but got back together in 1993—partly out of inspiration drawn from the Riot Grrrl movement which they had themselves inspired. The reunited Raincoats released their fourth studio album five years ago, Looking In The Shadows, which they accompanied by a short but critically acclaimed tour.
Now The Raincoats—original members Gina Birch and Ana da Silva along with new members (perhaps violinist Anne Wood and drummer Heather Dunn from the Looking In The Shadows session) have recently signed on to play Ladyfest Scotland this August. They join a growing roster that includes artists from the Scotland (Bis, Fran Schoppler), England (Angelica, The Lollies, The Raincoats), the US (Bangs, Sarah Dougher, The Gossip), France (Cria Cuervos, Goofball, Lack Of Reason), Holland (Lady! Die), and Spain (Hello Cuca). Check the festival Web site for a complete listing.
Ladyfest Scotland is one of three follow-on festivals inspired by last year’s Ladyfest in Olympia, Washington, USA, framed as a 'celebration of women’s music, art, and politics.' The non-profit event is seeking sponsors and volunteers; check their Web site for more information.
Tickets are not yet available, but the vendors are set: Glasgow’s The 13th Note (the location for the festival), Missing Records in Glasgow, by phone at 0141 339 8383, or at Tickets Online. | Ladyfest Scotland | | The 13th Note | | discography | | top of page |
