Modest Mouse’s 'lost' album to be released

An early incarnation of Isaac Brock’s Washington state quirk pop trio Modest Mouse recorded the album Sad Sappy Sucker in November 1994, but the tapes were put on hold and then abandoned in favor of their actual second album... which has become known as their first: 1996’s This Is A Long Drive For Someone With Nothing To Think About.
    Now, seven years on, K Records will release Sad Sappy Sucker on 24 April for North America. The new CD includes the 12 tracks originally recorded for SSS at the Dub Narcotic Sound Systems studio, along with another dozen bonus tracks including three four-track demos and nine more recorded solo by Brock for his Dial-A-Song project and previously available only by calling his answering machine. (One features the voice of singer Spencer Moody of Murder City Devils, the only person who ever left a message on Brock’s Dial-A-Song machine.)
    If you pre-order Sad Sappy Sucker directly from the label, you’ll receive it next week and they’ll throw in a Modest Mouse poster and sticker.
    Meanwhile, Brock has started recording a solo album under his alias Ugly Cassanova for Sub Pop Records, tentatively slated for a 2002 release. We’ve learned that he’s planning to collaborate with a variety of interesting musician friends and other artists.
