Extremely prolific thirty-nine year old techno-dadaist composer/pop artist Harald “Sack” Ziegler—known for his frenetic live shows with toy instruments—will be one of several performers at the fifth annual Nozart Festival of improvizational music this weekend in Cologne (Köln).
Also appearing at Nozart V are Kollegu Pischu (free jazz, from Germany), Thomas Borgmann Trio (confrontational jazz, Germany), Franz Hautzinger (trumpet solo, Germany), Feraliminal Lycanthropizers (noisy jazz punk + performance art, USA), One plus One plus One (steel cello + tape machines, Germany), Lèche-vitrines (drums & noise guitar featuring Sonic Youth collaborator Jean-Marc Montera, France), Konk Pack (hardcore improv, UK and Germany), and The Earthives Featuring HW Koch (minimalist experimentalists, Germany).
The festival takes place this Friday and Saturday (16-17 March) starting 8 pm each day, at Basement in Cologne, with tickets DM25 per day or DM40 for the full festival.
Ziegler was heavily involved in the ’80s German tape scene, publishing dozens of solo releases and contributing to more than 100 compilations. He’s guested with Faust, Mouse On Mars, and several other artists.
He recently teamed with Belgian distributor Atrecordings, who are now selling three of his albums (published on his own label) online. All tracks from the albums are available for free auditioning in high quality streaming RealAudio. You can also find a handfull of full-length streams on Ziegler’s Web site. | Harald 'Sack' Ziegler | | Nozart Festival | | HSZ on Atrecordings | | top of page |
