Wotapalava US tour line-up announced
6 June 2001

The first annual sexual diversity-themed Wotapalava Tour, conceived by The Pet Shop Boys’ Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe as “...a celebration of the freedom to be what you want to be and about having the power to live as you want without fear or discrimination,” takes place 13 July through 11 August throughout the US and Canada. Notably, the tour will visit three cities in the great state of Texas, where anal sex between men is still punishable by a fine up to US$500—a law that then governor George W. Bush enthusiastically supported and was upheld in March of this year. In Texas, heterosexual couples have been able to do whatever they want in bed without breaking the law since 1974.
The main stage lineup for Wotapalava is Pet Shop Boys, Soft Cell, The Magnetic Fields, and Rufus Wainwright; plus Sinead O’Connor on some dates. A second dance stage will feature Junior Vasquez, Danny Tenaglia, Peter Rauhofer, Tracy Young, Abel, Tom Stephan, Tasty Tim, Susan Morabito, Phil B, James Anderson, Lydia Prim, Manny Lehman, Mark Anthony, DJ Bone, Alex Lauterstein, Sylvain Girard, Ralphi Rosario, Kostas, Dawna Montell, Frank Abraham, Paulo, Chris Sills and Jimpy, along with Broadway and cabaret performers.
Tickets are on sale now through the Wotapalava Festival page on PlanetOut.com. One dollar from each ticket sold will go to The Human Righs Campaign, a Washington, DC based non-profit action center for Lesbian and Gay rights.
