Departure Lounge on tap for Bella Union’s Series 7

London indie label Bella Union, founded by former Cocteau Twins Robin Guthrie and Simon Raymonde, has been releasing an intriguing set of studio instrumental albums over the past year by various bands as part of their so called Series 7. Already out are sets by Gwei-Lo, Rothko, and Bonnevill; next up will be Jetlag Dreams by UK ambient pop quartet Departure Lounge, due 10 September for the UK.
Earlier this year Departure Lounge took up semi-permanent residence at Nashville, Tennessee’s The Slow Bar to play every other Tuesday with a rotating assortment of guest artists. The band are playing mostly as a trio: founder/front man Tim Keegan along with Lindsay Jamieson and Jake Kyle; Chris Anderson remains in London but drops by now and then to play. The band are calling themselves The Living Room for the Nashville shows, during which they play old and new Departure Lounge songs as well as covers.
Meanwhile, Robin Guthrie’s new duo Violet Indiana, who recently released their debut album Roulette (see our review), have set the date for the LP’s next single, Killer Eyes, as 23 July for the UK. The CD version will include at least one non-album track along with a video for the title, of which the label says, “We won’t reveal too many details, but if you are a voyeur, and like your sex dark and dirty, then there may be something for you here!” | Departure Lounge | | Bella Union | | Violet Indiana review on Rockbites | | bio | | discography | | sample | | top of page |
