26 June 2001

Albuquerque, New Mexico pop quartet The Shins released their debut album Oh, Inverted World last week on Seattle’s Sub Pop Records. Already charting high on US college radio, the 11 song set comes across all shiny and fresh while evoking images of bouncy late ’70s new wave—if you like Spoon or Guided By Voices, take note.
The Shins are James Mercer (vocals, guitar) and Jessie Sandoval (drums), both formerly in Flakemusic; Marty Crandall (keyboards); and Neal Langford (bass). They play a record release party this Friday at the Launch Pad in Albuquerque. Also onstage that night will be Starsky, Pilot To Bombardier, and Tune In Tokyo.
The Shins play tonight at Caledonia in Athens, Georgia, and on Thursday at the Green Door in Oklahoma City. | The Shins | | The Shins on Sub Pop | | article from Albuquerque Journal | | Know Your Onion! (full length MP3) | | bio | | discography | | CD | | top of page |
