The Impossibles release EP, set new tour dates
26 June 2001

A couple of weeks ago, Austin punk pop quartet The Impossibles (not to be confused with the Sydney, Australia band of the same name) released a great four song EP—proving that last year’s comeback album following their 1998 breakup was no flash in the pan. Titled 4_song_brick_bomb and very nicely packaged in a slim jewel case with stencil-cut insert and lyrics card, the new set was produced by the prolific Brian McTernan (The Axis Set, Drowningman, The Explosion, Fairweather, Halobox, Milemarker, The Movielife, Reachthesky...) at his Salad Days Studio in College Park, Maryland northeast of Washington, DC.
Punk pop, whose gold standard was set for all time 25 years ago by the breakthrough album Another Music In A Different Kitchen by Manchester’s Buzzcocks, is not an easy genre in which to produce something new and interesting. But The Impossibles can and do. The new EP succeeds by laying a foundation of solid, intelligent songwriting, building up from there with bricks of electric energy and heartfelt performance. There’s just the right touch of humor and irony to balance the anger and angst, and the result proves very satisfying.
The Impossibles (vocalists & guitarists Rory and Gabe, bass player Craig, drummer Pat—they don’t mention their surnames) recently finished a 30+ date marathon tour of the US, but hit the road again on 27 July leading up to a stint on this year’s Warped tour (check our tour dates link).
We give 4_song_brick_bomb four bites out of five.

Rockbites ratings  5: life changing, 4: stunning, 3: captivating, 2: amusing, 1: annoying.
