The Buzzcocks head to South America
20 June 2001

English punk pop legends The Buzzcocks (the lineup since 1999 has been Pete Shelley, Steve Diggle, Phil Barker, and Tony Barber) head to South America in a couple of weeks for five shows in Brazil and Argentina. It’s their first major outing since 1999/2000, when they staged a world tour supporting their last album Modern.
Meanwhile, last month Buzzcocks founders Pete Shelley (born Peter McNeish) and Howard Devoto (born Howard Traford, and who left The Buzzcocks in 1977 to form Magazine) finished recording 14 tracks for their heavily hyped and not-yet titled collaboration album. The two have been working under the interim name Buzzkunst, and putting on occasional live shows. The new set should appear sometime this year.
In other Buzzcocks news, bassist Tony Barber’s last month released his debut album as Airport, titled Lift Off With Airport, on Alan McGee’s new indie label Poptones.
The Buzzcocks’ South America dates are

June
27 - Londrina, Brazil (Maecenas)
28 - Curitiba, Brazil (Vintage)
29 - Buenos Aires, Argentina
30 - Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (Cine Iris)

July
1 - São Paulo, Brazil (Olympia)
