The Beans release 2nd LP this month, tour in September
18 June 2001

Vancouver experimental/ downtempo/ mostly instrumental quintet The Beans release their second full length, Crane Wars, on California indie Zum Records at the end of the month—but you can get it now directly from the label. It follows their 2000 EP Tired Snow, also on Zum, and their 1998 debut LP Portage from Canadian indie Zulu Records.
The Beans play a Crane Wars record release party on 5 July in their home town’s Starfish Room, joined by San José, California’s Xiu Xiu (who are in the throes of sealing their first recording contract) and Vancouver’s Dixies Death Pool (whose members also play in Wave Of Mutilation, a Pixies cover band).
The new, self produced album comprises seven tracks and runs close to an hour. It is in moments reminiscent of explorations by Mogwai, Arab Strap, and Godspeed You Black Emperor!, but perhaps even less tied to mainstream rock or classical aesthetics. We’ll bring you a full review soon.
Beans are planning a full US/Canada tour for September. Until then you can also find them on the recent No Watches, No Maps compilation from Brighton, England’s Fat Cat Records (home for Sigur Rós). | The Beans | | Zum Records | | Fat Cat Records | | top of page |
