Madigan Shive looking for good home for guitar, self
14 June 2001

Madigan Shive, founder and leader of San Francisco chamber pop collective Bonfire Madigan, is facing eviction in a city with a national reputation for outrageous rents: a variety of activist groups including the Popular Noise Foundation, Save Local Music, and Rock Out SF have sprung up over the past few years to work to keep independent music alive in the foggy city. Shive’s landlord wants to take over the property and move in, leaving her 'desperate' in the cash flow department.
So desperate, in fact, that if Shive can find a good home for it—meaning “someone who is looking for a songwriting tool with history”—she will sell them her blue acoustic Ibanez guitar. She used it in her old band Tattle Tale, and composed the love theme for the Jamie Babbit film But I’m A Cheerleader on it. If you are seriously interested in writing your own songs on an obscure but well loved piece of indiepop history, send email to moonpussSF@aol.com.
A bunch of Shive’s friends—Marci Blackman, Justin Chin, Noe Venable, Shelley Doty, and others—are helping out with a benefit show to raise funds to fight the eviction. It takes place 4 August at the Jon Sims Center For The Arts in San Francisco.
Meanwhile, Bonfire Madigan have set a bunch of (mostly SF) west coast US shows into early September, and in between will work on the follow up album to last year’s full length Saddle The Bridge.
