New incarnation of Spiritualized to tour North America
19 July 2001

Spacemen 3 cofounder Jason Pierce—who conceived Spiritualized as a solo project 11 years ago in Rugby, England and then, with a changeable lineup of members, built perhaps the most successful drone band ever—has announced a North American tour for this fall with an entirely new incarnation of his musical vision.
Having summarily sacked Spiritualized’s other members in 1999 immediately after securing their signatures on a new contract—which led to a fair amount of disaffection but gave rise to the spinoff band Lupine Howl—Pierce began assembling a new Spiritualized and started work on the forthcoming LP Let It Come Down. Tracks on the album, set for an early September release on Spaceman Records for the UK and Arista for the US, are On Fire, Out Of Sight, Don’t Just Do Something, The Twelve Steps, The Straight And The Narrow, Do It All Over Again, I Didn’t Mean To Hurt You, Stop Your Cryin’, Anything More, Won’t Get To Heaven (The State I’m In), and Lord Can You Hear Me. The first single, Stop Your Crying, appears 27 August in the UK.
Of the 100 or so musicians appearing on Let It Come Down (among them is Mimi Parker from Low), a few have stayed on to form a new 13 piece touring band: keyboards player Tim Lewis aka Thighpaulsaundra from Julian Cope’s band; guitarist Doggen from Brain Donor and who also plays with Cope; bassist Martin Shellard, ex The Tigertailz; drummer Kevin Bales; and percussionist Tom Edwards; saxophonist Ray Dickaty, who Pierce hired just before firing the previous members; multi-instrumentalist John Coxon; plus five brass players.
Spiritualized will tour in October, and as usual we’ll get you the dates ASAP. | Spiritualized | | discography | | top of page |
